Triangle Football Club held their annual awards night in the Senior Common Room at Coleraine University, The guest of honour was Irish Football Association Referee Development Officer, Alan Snoddy. The players, their family and friends had a breakdown of the clubs performance over the previous year from Chairman James Dooley and each year manager. James announced that since the club began eleven years ago they have enjoyed their most successful season to date, well done to the players. The teams’ silverware which was on display on the evening has been won right across the age groups. The special awards winners on the night were as follows:
From our extremely popular soccer school right through each age group to the senior Under 17’s, Triangle FC continues to develop each player’s skills and offer not just football. The players enjoy the social side of the club and some have even recently qualified as referees! This gives the boys a perspective of what it’s like being in charge. Alan Snoddy outlined the opportunities for young referees to reach the highest levels and pointed out that he himself started at 16 and went on two officiate in two world cups. He also claimed Triangle, as a club, has produced the most young referees he knows of and he hoped other clubs would take up the challenge of equipping players to be involved in football in a variety of different but essential ways. The club said farewell to the current U17s some of whom have been on the books since their days at the soccer school as six year olds. It is pleasing to find that the boys have places at local junior and senior clubs already lined up and the Triangle looks forward to seeing them make their mark in the local and national game.
A successful club needs staff and thankfully there is dedication right across the age groups from people of all walks of life who give up their valuable time to develop our local youth. The webmaster works tirelessly and has developed the site to be the main point of contact for the club and it is now one of the most active in youth soccer. Special mention must go to James and Pearl Dooley who behind the scenes constantly work for the club and local football. Also thanks must go out to the clubs sponsors who help pay the bills; David Martin jeweller, Easy Wash-Inn, The Honourable Irish Society, Coleraine Sports Council, Bishops Shoes, Moores, Gilpin Farm Machinery, Waters, C3 Services, Spanboard, AVX, R.S.T. Applications, Boyd & Logue Dentists, Sea Treks Ireland, Kelly’s Portrush, McAfee Properties to our newest Williams Industrial Services Ltd.
Refreshments at the awards were also provided for everyone and the club would like to thanks those who provided not only the food but the workers in the background who kept everything running smoothly.
Finally a big thank you to the players and their parents for all their continuing support. Between league seasons the soccer school continues until mid June and through various tournaments the football goes on.
