Under 16’s stay ahead of the pack
With another Saturday of dreadful weather cancelling matches Triangle U16’s were fortunate to have their game go ahead. 18th Newtownabbey were the opposition and the Coleraine side had the luck of the high wind on their backs to begin with. Several chances were missed and it wasn’t until fifteen minutes when Richard Walker cut in on the left hand side on the eighteen yard line to open the scoring. Triangle struck again within five minutes with a Richard Walker cross which was toe poked home by Vinnie Henneghan. Vinnie added his second with a strike from the edge of the box soon after. The just before half time Richard Walker shot also from the edge of the box. This time the Newtownabbey keeper parried it away but not far enough, Karl McKillop toe poked it home to make the half time score 4-0 to Triangle.

With rain cancelling matches in all leagues the final decision rested with the team managers of Triangle and Chimney Corner. The team having travelled all the way to Newtownabbey for the game decided to go ahead even though the rain kept on coming. Triangle went one down early on from a long range kick from the opposition’s right back. The ball went right through to Triangle’s keeper, the wet conditions left him slipping the ball and the Chimney Corner centre forward capitalised and scored. Ten minutes later and Triangle were awarded a penalty when Aaron Duffy was brought down, he scored the equaliser with a low shot into the corner of the net. Just before half time Craig McKillop just missed scoring from a cross by Glenn Young.

The second half saw Triangle with the wind on their backs, a free kick just inside the opposition’s half taken by Johnny Thompson saw the ball carried on the wind and bounce in front of the advancing keeper. The ball bounced too high from him to collect and found the back of the net. Triangle were now in the lead which then did not relinquish. The Coleraine boys were now in control and five minutes later Vinnie Henneghan clinched the third. Richard Walker secured the fourth with a 30 yard strike into the top of the net. Soon after Harvey Webber crossed from the right and Richard Walker headed in. Richard clinched his hat trick in the last minutes to leave the final score 6-1 to Triangle.
